Otherwise … coming soon!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted an update here - there’s been a good bit happening on various fronts, and there’s now (finally) some newsy bits I can share!

I’m really pleased and excited to share that Otherwise, a 4-artist exhibition, will be opening at Harvest Gallery in Wolfville NS on August 15th, 2026.

Otherwise has been well over a year in the making.

This project evolved from a series of conversations between Bonnie Baker, Sheri Hancock, Julie Rosvall, and myself about the nature of our individual relationship to materials and materiality as artists and printmakers. As we spoke together about art making in general, about print-based work, and what each of us was drawn to, we settled into our shared fascination with the notion of transformation.

Our proposal for this exhibition put it this way:

Perhaps it is stating the obvious, but as artists, we are all in the business of transformation. Our ideas become images or objects. We carve plates, etch surfaces, mix colour, manipulate & combine materials to make new things.

Inherent in that process is the ability to see things not as they are, but in their potential to be otherwise. The materials we each use in our work have their own stories to tell and inform what we do and how. The process of making also allows us to weave our own stories into the result. We transform and are transformed in turn; both art and artist are artifacts of this constant becoming.

This collection of new work from four Annapolis-Valley based artists revels in texture and process. Place and history inform the artists' approach. The transformations of time, awareness of tradition, craft, and the relationships to (and between) materials inform this exhibition, revealing each artist's unique approach to seeing other-wise.

Despite the broad strokes of this statement and the very different approaches we each took to the ideas within it, we have been quite struck by the connections between the work we made. More interesting still was the fact that we hadn’t shared ‘in process’ images or really spoken too much to each other over the months of thinking and making. I am really looking forward to seeing the work in the gallery: the conversations between the pieces will be quite powerful, I think. I am also deeply grateful to my amazing colleagues for their commitment to this project; I am very lucky to be able to share space, creating, and friendship with such talented humans.
